II was born in Rio de Janeiro, my father’s family comes from Sardinia, and Vienna has been my home for most of my life. As a child I drew comic strips for my classmates; as a teenager, caricatures of our teachers.

As a student I had my own column of comics in a small newspaper. My hero was Bicho-Grilo, a hippie who questioned the progress of the city. I think he still lives somewhere in my drawings.

I studied architecture at TU Wien and spent many years making precise technical drawings. Something was missing — imperfection. So I began to draw by hand again, and to let my lines stay slightly out of square.

Cézanne taught me how to look at the south of France. Today I draw storyboards for film directors, and I am learning to paint landscapes — all the extraordinary places still waiting to be discovered.
